I also put a clear inline filter in it sits vertically under the front carb
on my BN1.  The top never appears to be filled with gas, yet the car runs
fine.

After some initial head scratching I chose to focus on the latter part of
the immediately preceeding sentence, and all has been fine since for about 5
years.
