Ned,
Most of the questions you have can be easily answered if you get yourself a
copy of the BJ8 parts manual, not the service manual, though you should have
that too.
There is no floor as such over the BJ8 fuel tank. The bor floor is acutally
under the tank.
The boot lining (called Armacord) covers the fuel tank in all the big Healey
models with the exception of the 6 cylinder 2 seaters (BN6, BN7) which have
a plywood flooring piece trimmed with Armacord.
The correct rear most exhaust system hangar arrangement on the BJ8 uses a
steel bracket running basically front to back under the boot floor, fastened
to the 2 threaded studs extending down through the steel boot floor (under
the fuel tank). This mounting bracket is cushioned by rubber donut style
mounts to isolate the vibration from the body of the car. The bracket in
turn incorporates double clamps that fasten from the resonator tail pipes to
the bracket.
