Richard,
You do not take the door panel off before removing the handle. The "casing"
or facing the manual is talking about should be some sort of trim piece
around the base of the handle. That is the where you press the door panel
in. You need to press the panel towards the outside of the door to expose
the base of the interior handle. That is where the pin is that holds the
handle in place. It is not unusual for the panel and cup to be stuck from
years of dirt and rust. You may want to use a piece of wood and a few
"wacks" with a hammer or similar tool to break the cup loose. After you get
it moved, you will need a small punch, a nail, or other small round strong
piece of metal to push the pin out. If the cup is frozen, you will probably
have the same problem with the pin in the handle. Once the pin is exposed,
try moving the handle back and forth to loosen the pin. It will also help
to keep pressure on the door panel and cup to take the pressure off of
pushing the handle towards the interior of the car. One last thing, the
original pin was tappered and will only come out one way. It may have been
changed to a straight pin at one point, but I normally plan to remove from
the bottom up as that would be reverse of the normal installation method.
Almost all LBC handles are put on the same way. Hope this helps.
Pete

Listers,

I see that on my post of (late) last night, I used the word "facing" when
the manual reads "casing", if that caused any confusion.

One WOULD think that the inner handle must come off first, but, I'd hoped,
given the order of the instructions that that MIGHT not be true, especially
since the roadster door is less complicated than that of a BJ8.

The handle is somehow jammed (by what I assume is a broken rusty spring) and
its surrounding "cup" will NOT just "push back" as the manual so blithely
suggests.

Unfortunately, the car is neatly parked in its little slot in such a way,
that with the drivers door shut, any sort of working access to the inside of
it is VERY difficult. I'm going to HAVE to somehow get the door open, even
if done "incorrectly", and the car moved, before ANY sort of proper repair
will be possible.

Thanks again for any suggestions.
