Best thing about Hylomar is the fact that it stays soft and will allow
parts to separate cleanly when disassembling again.

And it is apparently fuelproof:

I set my fuel tank sender unit cork gasket in Hylomar about a year ago and by
mistake got a bit into the tank. This past winter when storing the car I
inspected the transparent inline fuel filter installed between the tank and the
pump and saw that the Hylomar had made its way through the fuel pickup and into
the element. On cutting the filter apart I found that the Hylomar (after
sitting in gasoline for at least six months) had seemingly the same
consistency,
etc. as when it came out of the tube.

Though it is a Permatex product Hylomar does not seem to be very well
distributed--some NAPA stores carry it and others have never heard of it.
