I assume you're referring to City Water.  My well water has tons of minerals
and 
to add to that I soften it with Salt.

iron in the block and head isn't a mineral what is it?  Animal or
vegetable?

Point is most tap water is so low in mineral
content that it won't make a
difference one way or the other.
