My guess: SU had a generic number in the casting (AUC6040) and as they
machined these throttle bodies for various applications they became
application specific and got a different part number. So they would etch a
more specific number, ie 6047. A triangular tag identified the carburetor
application itself.

So yes, TR3A H6 rear throttle body has an etched number
different from the 100m carb. A clear application difference here is that the
rear carb left hand side boss is drilled for the fast idle cam. On the 100m
it's on the right hand side of the front carb. The front TR3A carb body has
no modifications and only sports the generic auc6040, no etched number. 100m
carbs also have a different piston which might affect the throttle body, not
sure what exactly the difference is though.

But again, just my trying to
guestimate what they did and eager to learn more

So ... the carb bodies are for a
TR3A, but the floats are changed for a 100M?

If so, that's an interesting
piece of 'M' trivia I hadn't heard before. Why were TR3A carbs hand-etched?

The hand-etched number on
these carbs will point to Triumph TR3A H6 carburetors!

Float bowls are on
the wrong side!
