Hi David,
Assume you meant copper, not steel, but I've used copper stranded wires with a
stock coil and a Pertronix for (at least) 60K miles without so much as a miss
(got plenty when I used suppression wires, though). I'm talking hard miles,
too; just got back from a 3,106 mile road trip through the Southwest. I did get
passed by a McLaren and a Ferrari Scuderia, but can't blame my ignition for
that.
If you're thinking the noise in the copper wires could affect the Pertronix, I
suppose it's possible but I believe the internals are fairly simple and robust
(probably a Hall-Effect switch and a power transistor).

You must not use steel core wires with a Pertronix ignition. It can cause
intermittent miss fires in ignition. You will need to install a TR6 distributor
car and carbon wires.
