Consider plugging the by-pass hose that connects from above the thermostat
to the pipe off the water pump that goes to the lower connection to the
radiator.  A penny or a 1/2" copper tubing cap inside the hose off the
thermostat housing works nicely.  This prevents hot water that would better
be heading toward the top of the radiator entering the flow of cooler water
from the bottom of the radiator that is returning to the water pump and
engine block.  The by-pass allowed the engine to warm up more quickly in
England where the weather is cooler without causing overheating problems.  

Be sure to run a 160 or 180 degree thermostat as it will slow down the water
flow enough to give the water time to be cooled better by the radiator.  The
radiator should be professionally rodded out if it has not been.  Simply
flushing won't remove the 50 or so years of rust cake from the radiator or
the block.  When the engine soft plugs are removed during a proper engine
rebuild there are holes that should be drilled to improve the cooling plus
any rust cake in the block can be removed.

A friend not on the list has a problem with heatinvg on his MGTD 1500.
He has done everything he should do but it still heats up..  Hes
flushished the cooling system twice, cheched the timming multiple times.

Any sugesstionsions???
