HI Dave,
For comparison, on my '69 the mount centers are ~1 1/2" back from
the cockpit edge and ~5 3/8" in from the inner edge of the fender seals.
The nearest lift-the-dot post is ~1 1/2" away, measured edge-to-edge.
Mayhap you put them too far back?
