They've been changing for some years, very common (but by no means
universal) to see distances given in kilometres and speed limits in miles,
with no indication of which was which!  You've gotta love the Irish.  Even
better was a warning from a friend over there just before I visited him "If
you see a young person driving a car with L (learner) plates but
unaccompanied watch out, it means they have failed their test twice."
Learners have to be accompanied to begin with, but if they take and fail
their test twice they don't need to!
