Patrick, the plates should be on the passenger's side inner wing (i.e.,
inside the engine compartment) behind the radiator support. There should
be 3 plates - a body color one with the body number, below it the
commission number and in front of that one, a black and silver plate with
the car - or chassis - number - which was used as the VIN. If you only
have one of the first 2, then that's the problem, as the VIN should begin
with GHD4 xxxxxx. That GHD4 number is your VIN. 

According to Clausager, the car number MAY be stamped in the floor-pan in
front of the right-side seat - may be worth pulling up the carpet or mats
to check.

What are the numbers on the plate you do have?
