Been my experience that the advice you got is pretty correct. 6 volts isnt
enough to start that engine when its so tight. I know that some of you have
6v systems that work famously, but I have had two trucks that just didnt
perform well at all with 6 volts. My 54 235 was just not gonna start without
a battery booster. The 50 I have now wouldnt start with 6 volts at all.
Starts right up when tow-starting it. For me anyhow, there is just no way
around going to 12 volts. I hear they make a 12 volt battery that looks
exactly like a 6 volt one for show, and also there is a Coil that has a
12-6v stepdown built right in.
