Having been a passenger on many military helicopters, I always felt a little 
twinge in my stomach knowing that I was riding on the mechanical equivalent of 
a bumble bee that was built by the lowest bidder.  ;-)

I am reminded that helicopters have rotors which are held on by a single
bolt, called a Jesus Bolt, for reasons not difficult to imagine.  The entire
weight of the machine (less the rotor itself) multiplied by whatever G
forces it undertakes, is suspended from this bolt.

This is not to say that helicopters are safe and therefore we should have no
qualms about relying on bolts holding things together.  Indeed, my
impression is that helicopters run contrary to the general rule in life that
things look more dangerous than they really are.
