The Subject line tells it all.

The latest upshot of my Zenith-Stromberg carb saga (gas leaks, floats,
dashpot o-ring seal) continues. After fixing all the above, I am plagued
by a rich mixture (and beet-red catalytic converter - again. I had
previously eliminated this problem.)

To recap: My '79 Spitfire, with 47,000 miles and the original ZS 150 CDE
carb, is running way too rich (as verified by black sooty spark plugs). I
can't get it to run properly since I replaced the o-ring in the air guide
(dashpot) tube. No matter where I set the needle (from full rich to
"falling out" lean) it runs too rich. After a minute of idling the Cat
glows red. :-0

I rebuilt the Carb before I got the car on the road including new floats
and a grose-jet (it was not running when I bought it). At one time I got
the car through emissions, but that was with an air leak because of the
aforementioned disintegrated o-ring.

What else could give me these symptoms?

TIA,
