Greetings,

I just got my '79 Spit back on the road after dealing with some DPO
problems. While checking out some body problems in the trunk I discovered
that it has been hit in the back at some point in the past (I have only had
the car two months) What I originally thought was rust metal is actually a
very bad repair job where the mechanic couldn't get the seams to match up
and so he simply left big gaps with weld beads stretching across them.
Here is my question - inside the trunk on both sides, just inboard of the
bumper supports there are two bolts or rubber pieces, these are connected
to two supports on the underside of the car that are shaped like a "C", I
assumed this was a reinforcing plate for jacking - strange spot though.
The problem is that each of these spots have been pushed up into the trunks
floor pan causing some serious distortion. Is this a case of jacking in
these positions and pushing the pan up or am I looking at some more serious
problems.
