Hi there,
just taken out the steering rack on my 79' 1500. Taken a wire brush to
it, and have crackle blacked it. I have a number of questions regarding
it's what to do next.

I am not going to take it apart any firther, I have inspected for play,
and everything seems to be in extreamly good condition. Looking at it
it must of had an overhaul a couple of years back. The bushes are in
very good condition. I was going to clean out all the old, but not bad
condition grease, and put some new in. Put on the new gaters, and
re-align.

How do I re-align the steering rack, the Workshop manual says use the
special tool. I have herd a trick with a mark that is no the steering
rack, but I would quite like some more info on this.

Should I replace the UJ whist I am there, it's covered in oil and might
have a smidgen of play in it.

Oh also my brake cable is routed allong the steering rack, engin side,
and is cabled tied on to it. Is this correct, or should it go along the
chassis firther up!

I have just got some new grease, comma lithium high melting point
grease, but looking at it, it's not greese colour, it's dark gray /
black. Anyone know what this is like!
