The true AMCO bumper bar is clearly different from your standard badge bars
in that it is made from a larger diameter tubing (1" rather than 3/4" I
believe). They were made for both the front and rear bumpers to give added
protection to the sheet metal from those higher bumpered North American
cars of the period. (They had a tendency to slide up over the Spit and GT6
bumpers and crunch the boot or bonnet rather than scratch the bumper!)
