Ryan -

I just went through something very similar on my '76 1500. My
hot/cold lever wouldn't budge. I could press it (torque it, more
like) in one direction, but it would spring right back. That cable
goes to the heater control valve, located right next to the coil. It
controls the flow of coolant into the heater behind the dash. My
cable ran though the firewall behind the parcel tray. It came out
close to the battery, and in fact, corrosion from the battery had
basically destroyed the cable. I bought a replacement from Victoria
British for about $10. You could try soaking the thing with some
WD-40. If the cable is okay, then it's possible that the heater
control valve is stuck.

Good luck,
