Laura, senders are not completely waterproof especially when hit with high
pressure hoses, so perhaps some water got INSIDE your sender and is
shorting out the switch. I don't have a schematic here with me at work,
but I believe your oil pressure switch is a "normally closed" and opens
when sufficient pressure is applied. Therefore, a loose wire would cause
the indicator lamp to stay "off", unless it (wire) was making contact with
the body of the car somewhere. My guess is that the sender is probably
bad, but may dry out and start working after awhile. As oil pressure is a
critical reading second only to temperature, if you don't have a gauge
installed I would recommend replacing the sender or installing a mechanical
gauge.
