My '77 also has a square hole but doesn't that piece
spline onto the steering shaft?

My '77 has a square hole where the steering wheel
connects to the steering
shaft. I believe that it's been discussed before on
the list that this is
different than the earlier models. Don't know about
the '78 - '80 models.

Hi Jeff,
You wrote,
"I'm selling an aftermarket leather
steering wheel I pulled from my '67 Mk3 on The Totally
Triumph Auction and
I've received a couple of e-mails asking whether it
will fit later model
Spitfires. I'm assuming that the hubs on all Spitfire
models were
interchangeable. Am I correct or in error?"

The 62-76 Spits and all GT6's will interchange for
sure. 77 and up I'm not
sure, as the upper steering column became part of a NSS
(Not serviced
separately) unit and also the retaining nut changed
numbers. They look
similar, but I haven't removed one.
