As some of you know, I am in the process of doing a frame up resto on a '71
MKIII GT-6 whose original frame was cracked and bent beyond repair. I have
obtained a very good MKIII Spit chassis which is now being "converted" to
the GT-6 configuration (roto-flex).
With all the discussions on the list regarding suspension modifications, I
have been looking very closely at the bits and pieces as I swap them over.
Question - is the bent sheet metal bracket for the lower rear wishbone
really strong enough? It would seem to me to be way too light duty
considering what it is holding together and as a result I am considering
manufacturing a new pair from much heavier steel and then possibly adding a
small web reinforcing plate on a fore and aft plane. Am I being paranoid
about these brackets or what are your thoughts on them?
Also, what about adding some reinforcing to the heel panel to beef up the
radius arm mounts ? After all these years, even the best body must have lost
some of its strength and should one look at adding a plate across the width
of the tub before the radius arm mounts and new floors are installed since
any differences in spacing can be taken up with the rod adjustments?
