We may be talking about GT6's (gas tank on left in all countries, I think),
but Spitfires have the gastank weight in the center.

Hi Ed and list:

Gotcha.  That is FACTORY, and I believe it is 3/8", not 1/2.  Think for a
moment about RHD cars.  Driver on right, fuel tank on left.  Simple and
balanced, yes.  In North America (well, everywhere else)  both on left side.
The spacer is a compensatory device to correct what would otherwise be a
left-leaning car (no relation to politics!).  This piece should be above the
assembled spring/shock assembly.
