Ed,
It can be done without the tools. Takes just a little bit more work, but
not that difficult, just a real pain in the A$$. The hubs are not pressed
on to a tapered shaft like the swing axles ones are so no difficulties
there. A good puller will remove them. The old rotoflex joints themselves
will basically just unbolt. If you really wanted to you could cut them
apart with a sawsall before undoing the bolts to make it a bit easier, but
it's not really necessary. I've done it a bunch of times, no real problem
Just be SURE to leave the band on the new joint UNTIL you get all the bolts
in. Then cut it off, otherwise you'll never get it bolted in. The only
real challenge is getting the correct bearing tolerance in the hubs upon re
assembly. This is accomplished with shims and MUST be done correctly or
you stand a very good chance of ruining the bearings and possibly the hubs
as well if it's wrong -
