Bill,
The part in question is a die cast piece which acts as a bridge across the
front of the block. American Vehicles use a rubber Oil Pan seal at the
front and rear of the oil pan. Triumphs use a sealing block to attach the
front of the oil pan to a nice flat surface. It also acts as a sealing
surface for the engine front plate. I would be nice to have a new sealing
block if you were rebuilding a motor as this items contains 6 threaded holes
which tend to yield (strip) very easily which causes the front of the block
to leak oil.
