I think I've solved the question. It seems MK IVs with
their hard plastic, narrow underriders do not need (and
cannot take) that spacer between the horn bracket and the
hood hinge box. The underriders are notched to take the
ends of the grill bars firmly.
However, 1500s have softer wider rubber underriders. The
sides collapse, giving no support to the grill bars. This
spacer seems to be used only on 1500s to force the side of
the underrider out against the ends of the grill bars.
Thanks for all the opinions, but it does bring up another
question, later....
