I bought a set of ZS carbs that were beautifully rebuilt by Jeffrey Palya in
Ohio. After installing, I began to adjust the mixture with my "special carb
tool" and to my surprise, there was no adjusting hex inside the tube in the
top of the air valve piston. This carburetor looks just like my other ZS 150
CDSE carbs which have a plug in the bottom of the float chamber.
It appeard to me that the carbs are ZS 150 CDSE with 150 CD air valve pistons
with non-adjustable needles. The 150 CD carbs can have the mixture adjusted
via the adjusting screw in the bottom of the float chamber.
After questioning the seller, he said :
"The carbs that you purchased are 1969-70 GT6+ 150 CDS non-emission carbs.
These carbs do not have the adjustable mixture needle and also have the
pressed in jet. The needles are stated to be non adjustable but can really be
adjusted up to 0.020" by pushing the needle up into the piston mounting hole.
The early TR6 carbs are configured the exact same way and are adjusted by
pushing the needle up into the piston or by moving the jet if necessary......I
contacted a Triumph carb specialist and he
confirmed the non-adjustable needles on the 69-70 GT6 carbs.
Could this be true?
