Ah yes, the hotel key urban legend. That one has been floating around
since the 80's. Like all other UL's, its value is only in those gullible
enough to believe it.
*IF* it were true, and the keys did contain all that information, it would
have been immediately caused a lawsuit and no hotel needs to expose
themselves to such things.
Hotel keys have two bits of info: Room number and expiration time. That's
it. I've done enough work on the data systems for integrating card swipe
keys and the registration systems for hotels in the past to know this is a
limitation imposed upon them.
