Okay - one last question on my brake master cylinder for my 74 spitfire. I have
had this thing on and off my little
beast about 4 times now (maybe 5). Anyhow, the last time I had the master
cylinder off I used a brake hone (thanks to
the advice of this group) and thought I had exorcised my brake fluid leaking
demons as I initially didn't see any brake
fluid leakage. Unfortunately, some other issues with the car developed (had to
rebuild the carburetor), but that is
another story. So, I didn't really drive the car that much after the last
attempt. Now that I am driving the car more I
am again seeing leakage from the master cylinder. My last thought is that maybe
I installed the seal that goes with the
primary piston incorrectly. I am assuming that the seal goes on the shaft of
the primary piston - right? Blow up photos
from the Haynes manual and the Victoria British catalogue don't really show
this seal on the piston itself - but I don't
see how it could seal otherwise. The other thought that I have is maybe I
installed the seal backwards. There is some
writing imprinted on the side of the primary seal - which way should the
writing go - towards the interior of the master
cylinder sleeve or to the exterior of the master cylinder sleeve?
