There is a "dirt guard" pressed steel ring that is on the yoke that goes
on the front of the pinion gear as it goes into the diferential.  It
hides the lip seal from view.  If it is loose and flopping, then the yoke
must come off to replace it on the yoke.  If it is just hitting the dif
as it rotates, then pry it away with a screwdriver until it clears.
