Robert,

While there are chemicals on the market that remove carbon, cold water down the
throat of a warm engine works wonders.  Old, old trick but one that works,
albeit difficult on side draught carbs.  This may not remove all the carbon but
it gets the most of it. Only by removing the head, cleaning the combustion
chamber and valves can you be assured that you've do all you can.
