I can only think of three reasons:

1) Higher top speed.
2) Better acceleration.
3) Better (all synchromesh) transmission.

Other than that, no particular reason.  <grin>

BTW: Who would own a British car with a JAPANESE transmission for Pete's
sake? <grin>
