I have a 1380 in my bugeye and I am happy as Larry (well
you know what I mean!)

I've run it in various configs, everything from Kent 266 cam
up to a 296 cam, from Longman GT6 head through to
full race head (albiet 9.8:1 compression). I have 1.5:1 rockers.

The engine is *fantastic*. I've used it on the street, in rallies
and when pressed (race engine out of service), even used it
on the race track. Apart from problems caused by lack of
care in assembly the first time (by a well known national
supplier), the engine has been bulletproof. It has been great in
all configs - I am just hungry for HP because I use it in
competition.

The trick is to get it built properly and carefully, use good parts,
and of course look after it.

I use gapless rings, not because I have blowby problems,
but mainly because I have been so happy with them on
my race motors.

I use a turbo metro gasket and have had no gasket problems.

I have Weber DCOE45, long Redline (Wannaford) manifold,
long ram tubes, LCB extractors.

The extra cubes give great torque, I think it is worth it. To give you
an idea, the 1380 now gives almost as much HP as my +0.020"
race motor but has much more usable torque. I'm on a rolling road
dyno with both cars in the next month or so - I'll pass on my results.

Mike
