Jim,
     Be careful.  With the State of California doing smog spot checks and 
emission
spot checks at freeway off ramps, you could very well be invited to see a smog
technician, even for older cars.  Just because your car was manufactured prior 
to
1973 doesn't mean you can tear out all the smog equipment.  It is supposed to 
remain
intact.  After the year 2000, cars will become exempt when they become 25 years 
old.
