Didn't we just do this, or was that on the MGs list?
Anyway, water doesn't cut the grease and oil, but the detergent in it does.
That's why soap and water cleans better than just water.
If you are concerned about using mineral spirits, buy Safety Kleen or
Agitene. Both are expensive, but I've heard they work great.
My small parts washer also says not to use mineral spirits, but I think it's
just a CYA tactic in case the cheap pump melts. I use 3 gal. of odorless
paint thinner and a half quart of motor oil in mine and it works great. I
can easily replace the pump when it melts! The paint did come off the thing
the first time I used it!
