In the faint and distant past I recall phoning Lockheed or somebody similar
to ask advice on the master cylinders on a Mk1 Sprite.  Whilst we were
talking we touched on the subject of Calipers whereupon he said that you
shouldn't ever separate the two halves unless you were going to use new
bolts as the bolts were designed for one application of torque only.  He
implied that the bolts take on a permanent set in the same way as
half-shafts in the rear axle.  ie if you reverse the twist they get
stressed.
