I disagree. If you look at the % gain (in Vizards book) on the different
lengths of stacks. The little shorties aren't to bad at all.
But a side draft Dellorto or DCOE is a bit different then the SU's.

According to Vizard's, you should prbably fit the longest ram pipes that
will
fit in the filter housing. If I remember correctly, I think you should have
at
least 1" clearance between the end of the ram pipe, and the filter housing.
I 'custom' made up my K&N filter assembly, by calling them direct, and
ordering
the tallest filter element that would fit under my 'bugeye' hood, for a
dellorto
sidedraft (virtually the same as a weber DCOE). I them orderd the tallest
ram
pipes I could find that would still give at least 1" clearance.
BTW - All the K&N filters are generically shaped in several different
configurations, with only the hight of the filter changing. The thing that
changes is the 'mounting' for the various filter housings, to accomodate
different carbs
