I used some plans provided by Sears Craftsman on their website. It
includes using masonite as Alan suggests. I redrew the plans a little so
the workbench runs the entire width of my garage.

If that doesn't work, just go to Sears Craftsman website and follow the

I've also used inexpensive kitchen counters for workbenches. They work
really well. Easy to clean and they include a backsplash. Downside is
that they don't look great when beat up and are more difficult to replace
when necessary.
