I just use a skim coating of RTV Silicone that I spread thinly with my finger
on the valve cover gasket. The old mechanic who has my ear stresses that no
dressing beyond a thin coat of white lithium grease is needed. He claims
that the dressings jus "gunk up the motor" and that gaskets were made to work
without them. I have used that and it seems to work well too. Lots of
opinions on this, I am sure, but no one will agree with "gobs". 8^)
