That is where I have a set of 'real' air horns. I did this years ago,
before it was a popular thing. It was though to scrounge all the
parts together, but I now have a set of air horns on my '95 Suburban
(LBC support vehicle). For my LBC, I stick to regular electric horns.
Below are my experiencs with these and why I feel that 'real' air
horns are great, but the cheap plastic ones are a waste of money.

The Suburban Project
I bought a 12V electric air compressor off e-bay, built a tank out of
a 4' lenght of 4" PVC (NOT recomended) and rigged up a control and
activation system from some other e-bay peicis.

This is the real deal, and is as loud as any semi-tractor horn. Most
of the stuff you see for sale now suffers from a lack of air volume
(solenoid or air valve too small) and is not even as loud as most
factory horns. And now I have a LOT of air to use for roadside
emergencies and such. I put a milton connector (quick disconnect)
under the hood, and I use this to add air to my tires or run air tools
when I take the LBC to an autocross.

Small Air Horns
I had a set of the direct drive (plastic trumpet, Wolo or Fiamm) air
horns on my last car, but the "compressor" was unreliable and they
weren't any louder than the factory horns. For an LBC, I agree louder
is better, but I have found that a good 120db standard electric horn
is both louder and more reliable than the cheap direct drive air horns
on the market.
