Not that I will ever stop tinkering with it... but, it is nearly
"Complete".
This 1974 Midget was purchased many years ago in Florida and brought
to Pennsylvania. My Dad (Kevin) and I made it road worthy enough for
it to be my daily driver for most of that time.
About a year and a half to two years ago, I finally decided to
dismantle it and make it more appealing to look at and drive. With
the help from one of the early OSHIT meetings, we were able to
dismantle and cut the front in order to put a bugeye bonnet on it.
At that point it was apart enough and in enough disrepair that it sat
where we worked on it. (This OSHIT was for another vehicle, the work
on my car was a bit of a jumpstart for me... not to make it run at
the moment.)
Well, it sat for about a year. Time/Money/Patience... never had all
at the same time.
Then....oh, then... what a wonderful surprise to find that on my
birthday last year that my Dad had arranged an OSHIT meeting..
without me knowing about it. What a great group of guys!!! I have
been to many OSHITs but never expected to have one for my car. By
the time I got to the location where my car was stored, the team had
the car running... after a year of sitting. They also had the bugeye
bonnet fitted, and the brakes and pretty much everything apart. The
Macys worked on the front end rack, Bill G. did some welding, Phil N,
Chris K, and alot others worked feverishly on all parts of the car to
get it going. Frank C.. among other things, did alot of Bondo, and
was able to hit it with primer so I could drive it! Although I was
able to drive it, the bonnet was rubbing on the front tyres. So I
drove it gingerly for the rest of the season... in yellow primer.
This car was going to be "Electric Blue"... but the primer kinda
looked neat. Yeah, yellow primer.
So, it sat for the winter.... and I finally took it to Frank C's for
the First Annual Spring Thing. Everyone did work to each other's
cars. Mine included. I mentioned to Frank that I can't wait to
paint it someday. Yup, you guessed it.... he pretty much said to
leave it there. Boy am I glad that I left it there. Although he
kinda gawked at the color yellow I chose, he indeed smoothed it out
and painted it. While painting it, I got emails like it looked like
a Banana Runt, and it should say "Frenches" on the side. But, it
turned out GREAT! Now it is home, and I have tuned it up a bit. All
that is left is the interior, and to get smaller tyres on it.... so
they don't rub the fenders.
I have to say Thanks to everyone who helped make my car what it
is!... Especially, my Dad, Frank, and the entire OSHIT Team.
