If you think about it, the only thing that they balance is the driveshaft when 
they balance a driveshaft.  They balance the driveshaft so that it doesn't 
vibrate etc. when in motion.  I have yet to see them balance a driveshaft while 
still attached to a transmission or differential.

What say you?
