Ok, I got so disgusted with this, I cleaned up the oil off the garage
floor, closed the bonnet, threw a cover over it, and hardly stepped foot
into the garage until today. So now over a month has passed, I guess I
need to figure out wtf is going on.

I'm no mechanic, most of you have probably forgotten more about engines
then I'll ever know... Based upon the huge amount of smoke (blow-by?)
coming out of the crankcase vent and my basic understanding, I'm
prepared for the worst.

So I guess the compression test / leak-down test is indicated. I have
performed compression tests before, and have the gauge & fittings, so
I'm ok with the basic mechanics of the process. Have never done a
leak-down test however. Can someone kindly give me the quick & dirty on
what I need to do / look for?

Marc
