Thanks for all the excellent comeback on this. I understand balancing
everything that is immovable but I have never understood balancing the
crank itself. I'm sure there is plenty of info on this so pls don't waste
to much time on it but can someone give a concise answer on balancing the
crank.
 I assume that counterweights are fitted to the rod journal's but I have
never understood how that weight is determined. You are dealing with a
mass[rod and piston] that is constantly changing its distance from the
center of rotation and hence its crank counterwieght requirement. I
assume the goal is just something that limits the stress'es. Is the
fitted counterwieght a certain percentage of the rod and piston weight or
what?
