This subject comes up SO often with A series motors, and the culprit can oft=
en be placed with the eyebrow piece that forms the top of the rim and galler=
y for the scroll seal.
When rebuilding, these are often removed from the block for tanking and mach=
ining. They should in fact be re installed before align boring.
If they are left off until engine assembly, they have to be properly centere=
d with an even clearance all around, to the scroll on the crank. Since they a=
re not keyed to the block, there is a tendency for them to "walk" to one sid=
e ( dizzy side ) as the three bolts are tightened, creating insufficient cle=
arance ( or even interference ) on that side, and excessive clearance on the=
other, so the scroll seal will not work effectively. Excessive crankcase pr=
essure will really exacerbate the problem obviously.
Given the size of your leak, this could be the issue with your motor Mike.
