"Optima" is the only battery for me. My diesel Suburban used to eat
batteries for breakfast; not after I installed two Optima's (two are std. for
the diesel turkey). Cranking power can't be beat, believe me I know with the
glow plugs drawing big current and diesel compression to crank against. Deep
cycle characteristics are also superior to standard lead/acid.
These batteries are gell-cell tech. with 6 spiral wrapped "coils" stacked on
end to fit in a standard looking battery case. They are totally sealed and
gasses recombine in a special area - this is great because the battery
terminals and car body pieces don't corrode. Any mounting orientation is
allowed too. RV owners and racers love this battery for the above listed
reasons. One problem; they aren't cheap. Summit wants $140.
