>The horrid thought of diving in from work showering & changing. The
silliness of being social. The idiotic idea of going 50 miles for a dance.
The inconvience of the locked garage , the agony as you bash you knee on the
bumper in the dark. the foul smell of old fuel, oilcar. the nuisance of
keeping a car at all.
The devilish way the battery sounds almost dead. the curse of a car that
will not start. the strain of backing out a car in the dark.
The nasty sound of bodywork scraping a door post. The awful plague of an
engine that splutters for ages after starting up.The lunatic who has just
parked half way accross the driveway.
The muck people talk about the pleasures of motoring . Those blinding
headlights The foul manners of every other motorist. The absurd way roads
wind about.
The hopeless dimness of your headlights compared to others. The thought that
you could be in bed reading a book in comfort. The fact that the roof won't
go up.
The way the moon makes your lights seem even feebler. The awful rubbish
people talk about the moon. The wickedness of hidden speed traps & cops . The
cars lack of acceleration. The increasing number of cars driving like mad.
The arrival in the car park, finding a park, the absurd fussiness of ferrari
owners about their fenders, idiots!
The adjusting of the tie.
the dance.
*         *          *             *
The exquisite vision of loveliness
*         *         *
The hesitating offer of a lift. The astounding fact is that it is accepted.
The running on air to get the car.
The perfect way the engine starts.
The absolute ecstasy of driving at night.
The way the engine hums, the tyres run.
The staggering loveliness of the open road by moonlight. the exquisite
shiloettes of the trees against the sky.The joy of a road that curves and
twists so gently.
The glorious green of the grass in the headlights.
The loverly flying feeling as you crest a rise.
The glorious scent of new mown hay. The cheerfull smell of the farmsheds.
The wonderful joys that the car has brought to mankind. The thrill of the
wind in your hair.
The exquisite magic of the moonlight.
The happy thrill of meeting wandering animals. The pleasent warmth of the
engine. The fine reassuring smell of hot oil. The joy of communing with
nature. The glory of the first glimmer of the dawn.
The regret that she doesent live further afield. The final goodnight. The
joy of singing while you drive. The soft bump as you reach the far end of
the garage. The solid peace when you switch off the engine. The friendly
greeting of the bumper as you pass.
THE truely laughable discovery that you have lost your key......

Tony (people didn't know I drank untill I stopped)
