Why do my disk brakes occasionally make that ear-splitting squeal?
I've had the car for many years and even driven it regularly the last
few (after correcting enough of the DPO "enhancements"), but the
squeal shows up about 5% of the time I brake (rough estimate).
I've tried the following with only minor improvements
- replaced the pads (now using the "guaranteed-not-to-squeal" type),
- made sure the "anti-squeal shims" are in place.
- put anti-squal compound ("goo") between the shim and the back
of the pad --- it cooks away pretty quickly
