For a SIX cylinder, you will need 3 primary Ys to collect the opposite
firing cylinders, i.e. collect:
1 and 6
2 and 5
3 and 4
You end up with 3 tubes that should be collected into one tube, aka.
6-3-1 system. This is reported to work as well as the corresponding 4
cylinder 4-2-1 setups collecting 1 and 4, plus 2 and 3. It is also
certainly much better than the classical "collect 1/2/3 into one, 4/5/5
into one" 6 cylinder approach (6-2 or 6-2-1).
As a side note, this 4 cylinder approach only works with a flat
crankshaft. So such a header for a V8 90 degree would be less than ideal,
and that is why some V8 race engines use flat cranks.
