Bob and Jake, I'm guessing that the PF53 or equivalent is for the "later" 
1500 engines, where the air pump and/or other sundries require a 
different filter. Earlier 1500s, as did the 1147 and 1296 engines, can 
use an AC PF13 or Fram PH16 or other equivalent, PROVIDED the proper 
adaptor is present (if not, the adaptor must still be readily available).

The major difference between the two styles of filters, IMS, is that the 
earlier cars could use a fatter filter, but the later cars, because of 
space limitations, used a taller, skinnier filter.
