Thanks to all who suggested checking the dashpot or diaphragm - I found that
they seemed OK, no holes or tear, and oil present in the dashpot. I found that
the needle than extends into the carb below the diaphragm had a coating of
white "stuff" on it, that came off easily with a fingernail. I think this junk
was binding the needle. Any ideas on where it comes from, and how to prevent
it?
As I mentioned, this engine has about 300 miles since being idle for 3 years,
and the needle was clean when I started getting it going a few months ago, so
this buildup is recent.
I emptied and refilled the dashpot with engine oil, how do you know the
correct amount? I added nough to feel resistance when I inserted the piston,
seem to remember reading this somewhere.
